GO POMEROYS!
So what is a Pomeroy? Being a Pomeroy is not so much a thing, but a spirit of athletic excellence and sportsmanship. The Pomeroy name was chosen in memory of alumni and faculty member Sister Mary Joseph Pomeroy. She was a member of the basketball team that played in the first recorded basketball game in school history when SMWC defeated Indiana Normal College (now known as Indiana State University) in 1920. Sister Mary Joseph Pomeroy became a Sister of Providence and was an athlete as well as a scholar, mentor, champion and friend.
