(DOG lifts THE BEAST and shoos him. THE BEAST exits.) Damn you! I cannot believe this, you disgusting traitor! Do you even realize what you’ve done? Do you?! DOG Shut your mouth! You were going to kill that poor thing. I can’t believe you! CAT You can’t? The vermin is running amok! And it’s your fault! You did this! DOG (Looks around.) I think I could use a nap. CAT What? No. Let me out. DOG I dunno, I’m just so tired. I really need some sleep. CAT Get me out of here you filthy mutt! DOG Quiet. Get some sleep and get a hold of yourself. (CAT screams and shakes the cage as DOG crosses to his chair and plops down. The lights change. After a moment CAT finally lays down. A moment, they both are snoozing. The fridge is heard creaking open off-stage. A beat. It creaks to a close. THE BEAST slowly enters the stage. It scans the scene and crosses over to DOG. It looms over him a moment, then reaches out and pats his paw. He turns his head and looks at the cage, with the sleeping CAT inside. It crosses to the cage, carefully stepping over the remaining garlic scattered on the floor. It crouches down to the cage, peering inside. After a moment it unlocks the cage. It rises slowly. It gazes over the stage one last time, it exits. Lights fade out.)
