Characters: Maya, 25 Owen, 24 Store worker

Setting: A furniture store

Time: Present

Play starts out by a car. Maya and Owen have just parked. They are walking towards the furniture store when a conversation starts. Both characters emerge from side of stage walking slowly. Characters can enter store whenever. They can also start in furniture store depending on size of stage

Maya: So, what exactly is our budget for this couch?

Owen: Ummmm, maybe $700 or more? I’m not entirely sure how much couches cost. I had a futon in college that only cost me about $100. Maya: I think $700 is a good starting number. We’re not looking for anything fancy anyways.

Owen: (Sarcastically) Are you saying our apartment isn’t fancy?

(He laughs. Maya gives a slight laugh but he can tell she’s stressed about this couch buying. There is an awkward silence. This has been happening a lot lately…)

(Store workers bursts from side of stage with a lot of ENERGY)
