CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY For the fourth consecutive year, the MSFL Championship game will feature the Pomeroys of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College against the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave. Dubbed The Battle of Champions IV, the winner will take home the championship trophy. While SMWC captured the first-ever MSFL Championship, Calumet has defeated the Pomeroys the last two years. This year’s matchup will feature the MSFL’s top offense from SMWC, averaging 44.9 points per game, against the top defense from Calumet, only allowing 5.6 points per game. This will be SMWC’s last game in the MSFL as the Pomeroys will transition to the NAIA as a part of the Mid States Football Association in 2026.
BLAINE POWELL HEAD COACH POMEROYS HEAD COACH
In 2022, Coach Powell came to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Col lege as the head sprint football coach for the inaugural season. Since his arrival, the Pomeroys have gone 20-4 and are unde feated on the road. He led them to the MFSL Championship in 2022 and played in the championship game in 2023 and 2024. Powell came from the nearby town of Sullivan, Indiana, where he was coach at Sullivan High School for a total of 17 years. He spent his last seven years as head coach of the Arrows compil ing a record of 39-16. His team won the school’s only sectional title in 2020 and won the Western Indiana Conference Gold title in 2017 and a share of the title in 2021. Earlier in his career, he coached at Sullivan Middle School and Linton-Stockton High School, his alma mater, where he played football for four years.
