The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College department of intercollegiate athletics has had a busy year. The College is fortunate to add new head coaches to the roster for volleyball, basketball and softball, as the Pomeroy Athletics program grows strategically and transitions to the NAIA.

Nancy Sikobe joined SMWC as the new volleyball head coach in March. She comes to The Woods from Dillard University where she coached from 2016 to 2019. Prior to that Sikobe had head coaching stints at Texas College and Wiley College. Coach Sikobe expressed her excitement joining the Pomeroy family saying, “I am humbled to join the SMWC team. The thing I liked most about the College is the fact that it is a small college and the athletics department under the leadership of Ms. Bradley is growing.”

Following the announcement of the addition of men’s basketball in 2021, a nationwide search for the first men’s basketball coach was launched. Enzley Mitchell IV, Ph.D ., joined the College as the inaugural men’s basketball head coach and an assistant professor of the Master of Leadership Development program. Coach Enzley most recently was the assistant professor of sports management and kinesiology department chair at Bethel University and has served as the men’s basketball head coach at Illinois Institute of Technology as well as Northern New Mexico University. “Men’s basketball will provide further elevation of our athletics program, and I look forward to the excitement that he and his team will bring to our student experience. Pomeroy Pride is growing at The Woods,” said President Dottie L. King, Ph.D.

Women’s basketball head coach Scot MacAllister joined the team in July. Coach MacAllister most recently was an assistant coach for the Centre College women’s basketball program and prior to that was the women’s head basketball coach at Russell County High School in Kentucky. Brennan Randolph, vice president for enrollment management and information technology, said he is excited for what Coach MacAllister brings to the table, “After an extensive search, we are thrilled to welcome Scot MacAllister to The Woods. Coach MacAllister is a servant leader and will instill into his players characteristics and qualities that will help them grow both academically and athletically.”

Jim Walker was introduced in August as the new head softball coach as well as SMWC’s first sports performance coach. “Coach Walker is a huge addition to the softball program and to the department,” said athletic director Deanna Bradley. “He has the ability to take an already successful softball program to the next level giving us the opportunity to immediately compete within the NAIA.” Most recently Walker was the head softball coach at Franciscan University of Steubenville and also served in coaching capacities at Wheeling Jesuit University and Carlow University. In addition, from 2015 through 2018 he was the assistant coach with the Pennsylvania Rebellion, a professional fastpitch softball team.
