C L A S S N O T E S Alice Sherfick Shelton spent quality time with chardonnay, her Instant Pot, her backyard, and friends and relatives via Zoom. She also attended her first but not last protest and is birthing a podcast with Lori Harris Strawn, to be featured on the Sisters of Providence website. Lisa Bowling is helping plan her son’s wedding, tentatively scheduled for April 23, 2022. She says the engagement was a silver lining in a dismal year. She sent a picture she took of her daily morning walk in Chicago: few cars but plenty of pigeons! Maria Price’s mother, Flossie Price , passed in August. “Never have I been so grateful for the gifts my mother gave me as this year...while I didn’t finish getting to express all my gratitude for the love, support and example she shared with me, I gave it my best shot.” Rhonda Hite Smith’s silver lining is that COVID has made their Cabins & Candelight business a popular getaway. Her daughter graduated from DePauw and started a career in computer programming, and her son is in his junior year at Rose-Hulman. She enjoys chatting with Andrea Timperman Taylor , who lives in Savannah, Georgia. Paje Etling Felts responded to the request for notes with a cryptic “How are you?” The goal is to pry information out of her for the next round of notes—we all know how shy she is, so my work is cut out for me. Maureen McEvilly Carmody said thankfully not much changed for her during this pandemic and she is grateful to have kept her routine, income and health. Her role as a residential apartment manager in Chicago kept her super busy as all the residents were forced to remain inside for long periods. Mary Jane Kessler McCain spent time re- reading favorite books—something heard from lots of folks—and praying for family and friends. Lori Harris Strawn sent a humorous, grammatically perfect email in a beautiful Helvetica Neue font. She kind of enjoyed The Great Shutdown of 2020. After a feverish wallow in The Great British Baking Show, she summoned her inner fortitude...and went back to bed. “Plans for 2021 include...something. Probably.” Back from Senegal, Carleen Messina is now taking care of veterans at the VA in Bedford, New Hampshire. In April 2020, she graduated from the US Air Force School of Aerospace with training as a Flight Surgeon for the 158th Fighter Wing, and she is a Lieutenant Colonel. I’m partially plagiarizing Maria Price’s letter by sharing things I said in this past year that weren’t on my Life Bingo Card: What is that Viking doing in the Capitol? Are you Zooming to church? I’m so excited to get my shot! Ugh, going back to the car for my mask! 2021, do better!
