Global Leadership Research
The purpose of this course is to be introduced to and begin the practice of understanding and researching cross-culturally. This is done by gaining a solid foundational understanding in global leadership theory along with examining culture as a significant component of research. Students will participate in an applied cross-cultural experiential learning research opportunity as a class. Global leadership development is an evolving area of research and practice. This course accesses both research and practice in developing global leaders who can lead across private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Global leaders have failed to mount a coordinated response to the COVID -19 pandemic and the climate change crisis. This course focuses on the essential competencies a global leader needs to overcome current, unforeseen, and future leadership challenges. This course will provide a theoretical perspective and foundation for global talent management in supporting organizational strategy and mission. Students will analyze the role of global talent management in implementing organizational strategy. This course will also cover the evaluation of global talent management as an essential component of human resource activities on a global level. This course will explore the complex moral and ethical challenges posed by cultural differences encountered as a leader operating in a global setting, making morally sound choices in a cross- cultural environment. The focal point for this course will be centered on understanding value relationships between culture and ethical decision- making, developing strategies that find common moral ground, overcome attitudinal differences, and solve ethical dilemmas soundly across cultural boundaries.
