SPRING-OA 2022
C L A S S N O T E S Wallette Garcia Pellegrino’s letter said, “we are full of sorrow… for those who have left us”… an appropriate expression of our feelings. The Pellegrino letter gave thanks that their two daughters and son and families are happy and healthy. Wallette serves on several community organizations via Zoom. Husband Victor continues working the farm, writing and cooking. Ann McCrea Bresnahan mentioned that her large family always has something going on even with the continued challenge of COVID. Other than some skin surgeries - too much sun - Ann is doing well, as is her family. Everyone is busy with school and work. Ann hopes to get back to her church and music activities soon. Margaret “Peggy” Piszczek Kloempken and Tom delighted in having the whole family (15) together for Christmas 2022 in Florida and said they had a wonderful time with the seven grandsons swimming, playing tennis and watching football. Peggy was in Baltimore, Md., in the summer and talked with Elizabeth “Beth” O’Connell but their schedules didn’t mesh for a get-together. Mary V. Sherman Krebs is requesting prayers for complete healing of large cell lymphoma which was diagnosed in November of 2021. Her doctor says it is completely curable and Mary V. is staying positive. She has been able to tolerate her chemo treatments, but we can certainly add our might with many prayers for her complete recovery! Ellen Goodrich Bondi was just coming off quarantine after exposure to COVID when she wrote in January 2022. Ellen and Jim’s drama group did Romeo and Juliet via Zoom – with Ellen and Jim in the leading roles! Her granddaughter Paloma graduated from high school with honors in June 2021 in California and entered Berkeley University in September. Annabelle Farr Mumma was exposed to COVID while visiting with her children on Thanksgiving 2021. Despite having both vaccines, she tested positive. She was back on the road quickly - Baltimore, Md., for Christmas and North Carolina and South Carolina to visit more of her kids. Annabelle is ready for an end to COVID. Kathy Bogan Cannady’s 2021 vacations included Sarasota and Port St Lucie, Fla., and Williamsburg, Lexington and Jamestown, Va., in October looking for fall color - no luck! Besides physical therapy sessions for balance problems, Kathy has stayed well. She renewed her Realtor license for two more years and is planning to retire when that expires. Marcia Chester Richey and Wayne were disappointed not to travel last year due to all the restrictions but hope to resume some travel plans in the near future. Wayne sold his plane last year so there will be no more “quick trips.” Linda Keats Renzi sent a great catch-up letter. She and husband Paul live in Chelsea, Mass., and have been teaching in the inner-city Catholic schools their whole career and still teach! They have three children and seven grandchildren. Their youngest daughter lives with her husband and children outside Stockholm, Sweden and Linda and Paul love visiting them. Like everyone else, we hope for normality soon. We are anticipating the arrival of our first great- granddaughter in April. I wondered if we’d just have great grand dogs! Our gang seems to be spreading across the country so getting everyone together is well- nigh impossible. Westhoven’s graduations in 2022 include two college, two high school and two grade school. Once again, another year has gone by - wouldn’t it be nice if we went as fast as the time! Thank you for staying in touch, for answering all those prayer requests and for keeping all of our class in your thoughts and

COVID has cost us precious time with family and friends, but these notes show how resilient we are and ready to tackle what age brings us, despite the aches and limitations. Susan “Sue” Wise writes that her garden was on the May tour for Jefferson Texas’s spring home and twilight tour. She spent Thanksgiving with family in Fort Worth, viewing the Turner exhibit at the Kimball Museum, adding “If I’m not in a play or going to plays, I lead a pretty quiet life.” She talked with Kathleen “Boo” Finneran Valle who sent a copy of her first published book, Old Fire Eyes! Sue found it fascinating and very well researched. Five stars! Boo has had a hip replacement and is recovering after some complications. Sue also added that she heard from Maria Lecaroz Delgado’s husband. Maria is in an advanced stage of Alzheimer’s—bedridden, nonverbal, does not recognize family. So tragic. But Sue remembers her infectious giggle and her sweet smile. Rosemary “Rosie” Lawler Wong has had some health scares but was able to attend some family yard get-togethers at her daughter’s house: Mother’s Day, and an outdoor Thanksgiving Feast.
