in the new location. Gail has been placed on the lung transplant list for the last month and is hoping for an answer in just a few more weeks. It is with deep sadness that we learn of the sudden passing of Gail’s brother, Jim, on December 24, 2021, of a massive stroke. Please keep Gail and the Size family in your many thoughts and prayers. Ivelisse “Ive” Nadal Ammoune (nenapr51@ yahoo.com) resides in Houston Texas, with her family nearby. She stays connected with Hoi Phan Heltdt (heldt_hp@reagan.com) who lives close in San Leon, Texas, and Mayra Del Mar Gomez who settled a long distance away in sunny Davenport, Fla. Once lost and now found … Ive was able to locate Susana “Susie” Saavedra (srsq4255@gmail.com), who lives in Panama. Margaret “Margi” Owen Miller (margi.miller@att. net) and Mike still reside in Lake Charles, Ill. A second home in Big Sky, Mont., is the setting for winter snow and ski vacations as well as a summertime getaway location. Summer of 2022 will bring much excitement as Margi’s niece, Colleen Scanlon, daughter of Kathleen “Ky” Owen Scanlon ’72 , will celebrate her wedding and reception. Mike and Margi are trying to figure out the ins and outs of Medicare. Kathleen “Kathy” Wentland Lubeznik ’80 entertained Woodsie friends Frances “Fran” Chirstian Olender ’80, Sandra “Sandy” Hall Wiederholt ’80, Mary Antonsen Hoffman ’80 and Mary L. Coleman (maryc44@aol.com) at her Michigan City, Ind., home this winter. Due to COVID-19 they had not seen one another in an exceedingly long time. They did nothing but eat, drink and talk beside a fire all weekend – oh what fun! Mary continues to volunteer her work as an appointed member of the SMWC Board of Trustees, 2019-2022. Thank you for your service! Though far and near, Norma Marie Honiball (honiball@hotmail.com), Kathryn “Kathy” Jasinski kejasinski@hotmail.com) and Julia Thompson Henry (jannehenry@gmail.com) continue to keep in touch. Kathy is a great communicator and keeps in contact with many classmates and faculty from SMWC. The girls organize visits and travel time together which includes a week-long stay back to The Woods each year. Susan “Sue” M. Kuehl (suekuehl623@gmail. com) remains steadfast with her wonderful sense of humor. She has avoided any health issues. Sue has experienced a little travel time with a stop-off at SMWC for the ribbon cutting of the new residence hall. She thinks that it would make a lovely retirement residence when the garage port is added. Crafts and house maintenance keep Sue busy – she will be ready for company to visit at any time in Vincennes, Ind. Kathryn “Kathy” Kelly Proffitt (kproffitt@ consolidated.net) and John will celebrate 32 years of marriage in April 2022. For the last eight years, Kathy has been a bilingual cashier (Spanish) for The Home Depot in Mattoon, Ill. Although she has been the Pro Desk cashier the last two of those years, she is often called upon to fill in as a head cashier. Life is good! John and Kathy enjoy being homebodies while tending to gardens on their property. Linda Lovellette McLeaish (kenwoodcottage@att. net) and Bob are enjoying the lifestyle of retirement. They continue to travel with their camper across the country – the next stop may be to your home on their way to the Sunshine State (Florida). Happy trails to you! The SMWC Class of 1979 Facebook Group is growing by leaps and bounds. All SMWC alums are welcome to join our group at any time. A special “shout out” from the Class of 1979 to Sarah Stultz Mahady ’05 , (smahady@smwc.edu),
SMWC Director of Alumni Relations. Sarah continues to communicate any updates to the College for our class directory so that we are all able to stay in touch with one another. In addition, Sarah sends the latest happenings on the SMWC campus (and there have been many) so that we continue to be connected with our alma mater. Our Class Gift is growing for the next Reunion Weekend at SMWC in 2024. How blessed we are to have Sarah working so closely with all SMWC alumni! As for me, I am still working as a high school counselor, judging at cheer/dance competitions and still loving to spend time with the family. I enjoy keeping connected with the SMWC New Jersey alumnae most especially Madeleine Walsh Sullivan, Ph.D. ’65 and Lydia Ruiz Hull ’71 . 2021 was a peaceful summer spent at home while enjoying beautiful walks and bike rides along the New Jersey Shore. I hope that you found the beauty and peacefulness as well! Thank you for sharing your latest news and activities with the SMWC community. Though our traditions are deeply rooted in our beloved Woods, the friendships and memories made have lasted nearly half a century. Wishing you and your family much sunshine, good health, happy times together, and a blessed spring season in 2022. Please continue to keep in touch … and in touch with one another. I’m blessed to spend time with the little ones. Just a few more years and then it’s full retirement! Vicki Ross Fish: Life for me is about to change next December as I retire. Life in a high school fluctuates with the changing of times, pandemics, songs, social media... etc.. I will miss greatly the students. The nest is finally empty, Bob is still busy on the farm, I am still teaching, and life is good. Mary Jeanne Schram Miller: We are still traveling back and forth between Sisters, Ore., and Butte Valley, Calif., on a regular basis. After my aunt passed, I took a trip with my 86-year-old uncle to take his mind off his loss. We saw the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Sedona, Montezuma Castle and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin House West. My big Woods news is that one of my twin nieces is attending The Woods! My younger daughter, Katherine “Katie” Rogers Margolis ’15G lives with her husband in nearby Arvada. My husband Allen and I spend our days quietly. Marianne Mueller Brookman: My husband, Patrick, and I have owned a plumbing business here in West St. Louis County since 2007. That keeps us busy along with our 11 grandchildren, including two sets of twins. We love the grandparent life! All six of our daughters live in the St. Louis area so we enjoy a lot of family time. We also love to travel whenever we can get away! Kathleen “Kathy” Wentland Lubeznik : Several alumni enjoyed a weekend of fun at Kathy’s home in Michigan City, Ind., the last weekend in January. Over 4,000 miles, seven national parks and a week with our son and his wife in Southern California. We also visited The Woods in July. Rebecca Richard-Shupert: In late 2020, I accepted the position of Chief of Social Work for VA Eastern Kansas Healthcare System. My family has remained healthy, and we have been enjoying both Kansas University Basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs from the safety of our couch. My son is a junior at the University of Kansas studying Aerospace Engineering and my daughter works as a nurse in Omaha. I continue to enjoy quilting. Joan Le Sueur Love: I have been retired for almost seven years now. My husband, Rich and I moved to Reno, Nev., a little over five years ago. We love the mountains and the four “gentle” seasons.
