INTERPRETATION:

#1 – Interpretation Choice -Compare calculated (absolute value) t to Critical Value (table)

The output illustrates MannWhitney U using the legacy dialog approach in SPSS (Analyze, Non-parametric test, legacy dialog, 2 independent samples, variable = sales, group = training methods defined as 1 and 2, Check Mann-Whitney, Choose Exact & Exact). This output is compares the mean rank (14.95 for Training method A, and 8.05 for Training method B). See the video for more details. The calculated Mann Whitney U -value in the illustration below is 22.5 . The critical value n 1 at 11 and n 2 at 11 and an alpha of .05 is 30. Since the calculated value (or sometimes called absolute value) is LESS than the critical value (from the two-tailed test table), we reject the null hypothesis.
