Also, at this website is the transformation of effect sizes, which at first glance appears to muddle the issue. You may be asking yourself – “ Well which of these effect sizes should I use?” And that’s a good question.

The U statistic reports the degree to which one group has higher ranks than the other group. This means you have to know your data well. There are many effect size variations to consider that are beyond the basics. These are included in the table below, but clearly labeled “advanced.” For our purposes, let’s concentrate on using “r” for our effect size.
