Prior College Credit o

Students must send an official transcript from prior colleges.

• Dual Credit o Dual credit courses may show on a high school transcript, but the student must send an official transcript from every college they have attended during high school. • Advanced Placement (AP) Credit o AP credit was created by College Board. The program offers college-level material and exams to be taken in the high school. The student must take the exam for the AP course in order to potentially receive college credit. Student must order a College Board Score Report to be issued to SMWC for evaluation. CLEP helps a student receive credit for skills already known. CLEP measures a student’s knowledge of college-level material to determine if a student can get credit. They take an exam to measure knowledge. SMWC is an approved CLEP testing site. For questions about CLEP testing, please contact Christy Gunderson. Coursework through the military is determined through the American Council for Education (ACE). Students can possibly receive college credit for training and skills that are determined to meet the requirements of being considered an equivalent of a transfer credit course. The student would need to provide their Joint Services Transcript (JST). The Registrar can evaluate an unofficial transcript. However, in order to enter the transfer credit in the system, the student must request their final college official transcript from that college to be sent either electronically or by mail to SMWC. An Advisor can also look at an unofficial transcript to get an idea of what was taken and try to build a degree plan from that. There may be times where a course is evaluated, and the student believes they may have taken a similar course. They may choose to petition for review. This request is handled through the Registrar and department chair. To bring in transfer credit towards a degree at SMWC, the grade must be a ‘ C ‘ or higher. However, if the student has an associate degree from the state of Indiana, a grade of ‘ D ’ is acceptable due to the Indiana College Core (aka ISTGEC). There are times where a transfer course may be considered to have been taken too long ago and the subject matter may be outdated. • Each department may have a preference on what is considered too outdated to bring in. • Each department may also only allow a certain amount of transfer credit towards the major courses, as some courses are required to be taken at SMWC. • Each department may have a different grading scale and a specific grade needed to be used towards their major. Each student is required to take three courses over their time at SMWC for degree completion. Those are: • WC 100 Into and Out of the Woods • TH 200 Love and Justice: The Faith and Spirituality of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin • WC Capstone o WC 401 Social Justice o WC 402 Sustainability o WC 403 Global Women Leading Change o WC 480 Woods Coore Capstone Topics • College Level Examination Program (CLEP) o • Military Credit o
