Academic Support through the LRC
1. Early Alert System
a. On the Faculty/Staff Hub, is a link to “Submit an Early Alert” - https://hipaa.jotform.com/222224333884151 b. Purpose of an Early Alert: Any concern you may have about a student (mental health disclosure, academic troubles, etc.) at ANY point in the semester c. Process of an Early Alert: Alert goes to Director of Academic Services for Student Success, Executive Director of Student Success, Registrar, and Associate Vice President for Student Affairs d. Goal of an Early Alert: Pull everyone together to best provide resources to a student in need. The alerter does not need to know who to reach out to, but only needs to complete the form. 2. LC 112/113 Classes a. LC 112: College Success and Beyond (3 cr) i. Population: All new students with a GPA below 3.0 and/or lower SAT/ACT scores ii. Purpose: To help transition students from high school to college (time management, organization, study skills, etc.) iii. Additionally, they will meet with instructor regularly and learn how to complete study table hours effectively b. LC 113: Reclaiming College Success (1 cr) i. Population: All students on probation, Athletes with semester GPA below 2.5, 21 st Century Scholars below GPA requirements (2.5 or 3.0) ii. Purpose: Workshop based course providing students the resources to get back on track (Students choose 10/15 workshops to attend) iii. They also are assigned mentor (Academic Support Team) to meet with regularly and must complete 2 study table hours/week 3. Academic Support Team a. A group of faculty/staff who meet regularly to review grades and then take on mentees who need additional support i. 4 Weeks – We receive all freshmen grades and assign mentors for anyone with a grade below a C- ii. Midterms – We receive all student grades and assign mentors for anyone with a grade below a C- iii. Final Grades – We receive all student grades and determine LC 113 placement, probation and/or suspension. b. Mentors will be assigned mentees before semester begins, and then at each grade check. i. The ones assigned at the beginning of the semester will be required to meet with their mentor at least 5 times through out the semester.
