Theresa “Terry” Jones Swayze says 2022 saw her getting out and doing more. She and friends regularly attend events at a dinner theatre, have cookouts, etc. Her son and his long-time girlfriend got married in February, followed by a September reception. Her daughter’s two sons are now in seventh and eighth grade. Terry makes sure to attend all their baseball and basketball games. She continues to enjoy retirement - doing what she wants when she wants. Mary Ann Delahanty Latusek says it’s been a good year. She visited Hilton Head with family, and ’71 classmates. In May, she went to Paris with her two daughters and granddaughter. The two youngest grandchildren keep her busy watching them twice a week. The two older ones are very involved in dancing and cheerleading. Mike is again employed as an adjunct professor at Carlow University. She keeps busy volunteering and serving on several boards. Mary “Bridget” O’Malley Kratofil credits Facebook (and Carol Conway ) for her connection to classmates she had lost touch. Theresa Tighe is one — she only went to the Woods one year but has reconnected as an associate of the Sisters of Providence. Bridget shared that she is on a new cancer drug that has been successful so far (six months). It’s her seventh chemotherapy. She says thank you to all who have been praying for her! Dorothy Blakey Priester reports that all is well with the Priester family! The highlight of this past year was traveling to Indiana with Fred’s basketball team to play in the Hoosier gym! Covid did hit almost everyone in her family, but they managed to get through it. She continues to enjoy retirement (nine years now) and spends as much time with the grandkids as she can. Juliann “Juli” Smiley Thrush says life is improved this year. Their health is better, and grandkids are nearby. She and Bob celebrated their 50th anniversary last summer. They spent a week in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. They are planning a trip to Indiana in July 2023. She hopes to spend time at The Woods, see Beverly “Bev” Birk-Cutshall in Vincennes, as well as visit her hometown. She says to make special memories for 2023! Jo Ann Henry tells us that she is doing well, although her knees hurt more and more. She was so glad when the nursing homes opened again to volunteers in May. She and her therapy dog are again visiting. They had to stop their visits for two years because of Covid. Her dog, Glory, is very close to getting her AKC Rally Obedience Championship!!! Jo and Glory love to train and compete. Carol Conway continues teaching and taking classes at a local university. She has become more involved in the immigration problem and is part of a group sponsoring a refugee family from Sierra Leone. She continues as a Board member for a non-profit program for at-risk teens. She celebrated the first-year anniversary of Lynn George Crotty ’s transition with Mass and dinner with family. Carol, Mary Getty, Valerie Woods ’72 , Mary Jane Welter ’72 have kept their promise to get together monthly. She says life is good. Christine “Chris” McCauley Stremel tells us, “All is well here in the DFW (Dallas Fort Worth) area.” Chris’s granddaughters continue to be the “most amazing” part of her daily activities. She also volunteers with a group “Up Ministries”, dedicated to children the entire year. Big news… she adopted a rescue dog. His name is Cooper! This year she, Ed and the family are planning a Thanksgiving Family Cruise. They are all excited! Tina Gnavi Collins reports that she is doing well in Texas. Tina got together with Mary Jo Trainer Pazak and Red for lunch in Scottsdale on their way to Prescott, Arizona to visit friends. Such a fun visit! Their
Katherine “Kathy” Allen Gordon , is now in an assisted living residence in Illinois with arthritis Helen writes. More sad news-Helen just learned that Teresa “Terry” Hingerton Pirch had a massive stroke last Fall and is paralyzed on her right side and can’t speak. She says, “This is a scary age we’re in! Our best bet is to keep praying and staying in touch with one another.” Anita Scioldo Osella has had a difficult year. “We lost my granddaughter, Emma, to suicide on September 12th this year. She had struggled with mental illness. It progressed despite every effort to help her, and she just couldn’t stand it anymore. Now I know the Good Shepherd has her in his arms. Please pray for my family.” On a happy note… Anita’s granddaughter, Analise Osella Caes ’99 ’s Catherine, is marrying in June, and Catherine asked Anita to be her flower girl. Granddaughter Hannah continues at Anderson University. Grandson Andrew and his wife live in Indy. Elizabeth’s Sarah is studying commercial design at Indiana State University. Nathaniel works for Boeing in St. Louis and loves exploring the city. Little granddaughter, Rylee, is in second grade and loves singing with the Terre Haute Children’s Choir. She tells us that she and Dave visit doctors every week! Margaret “Meg” Deisher says the year went along as usual, except for dead appliances and the loss of one of her beloved dogs. During the year, Meg and her sister traveled to visit family in Texas and in North Carolina. They head to the Outer Banks and meet cousins every other year. This year they happened to invite Judith Larkin along. All had a wonderful time. Here I must apologize to Joan Vincent O’Connell , who wrote me a lovely note in a card. I have misplaced it. I tried to get in touch with her to replace, but my messages never got through. I’m so sorry, Joan. Days go on as always for the Larkins. I visited Colorado Springs with friends. Calliope is doing well in the show ring. I was elected President of the Pacific Northwest Gordon Setter Club. I am preparing for our annual dog show. “Thank you to the class members who answered my call for news. I’m proud to be your Class Secretary. 2026 will be here before you know it.” ’73 Barbara Cooney Anderson 13 Naramore Dr Batavia, NY 14020-2725 (585) 409-7458 canders3@rochester.rr.com I didn’t actually hear from Lynn Bronikowski, but at the time news was due, she was on an amazing safari to Tanzania and shared many amazing photos on Facebook. Janet Birk Howe and Jim moved back to Jasper and have been busy since retirement! She was part time librarian at Holy Trinity School from 2015-2019, when she retired. She takes a weekly barre class which has taught her a lot. She tries to take long walks and loves being outside. Jim is avid about lawn and landscaping care, and Janet helps. She hopes to attend our 50th Reunion and looks forward to seeing everyone. Christina “Chris” Collins and husband Caesar decided to venture out of Bloomington and start traveling again. They flew to Los Angeles and New York to visit family and friends. They also made a car trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada and got to see the Horseshoe Falls. Victoria “Vicki” Dufour Jenkins says blessings to all for a healthy, joyful year! Life is good in Fishers, Indiana. She and Sam will celebrate 13 years of marriage in April. She volunteers at SVDP AND RCIA and enjoys fitness classes, walking, traveling and time
grandkids are growing up too fast. They went to Los Angeles to spend Christmas with them. Patricia “Patti” Williams Essig continues teaching yoga weekly. She has been sharing her gifts as a Spiritual Director for two years. Patti had a wonderful conversation with Marilyn McCardle Ward . Their children and grandchildren are thriving. Her husband Steve had a knee replaced in February and is more active than ever. Patti sends love to all! Constance “Connie” Nix Peelman and Danny, husband of 52 years, are healthy and well but have had their fill of cold and snow. They are actively looking for a part-time place in Florida. They’ve scouted Pensacola so far. Their son Greg and his family live in Minnesota, and their daughter and her family are there in Connecticut. Patricia “Patty” Frawley Cunningham , lives in Arizona now with her brother, Joe. Before she visited him last year, she had a terrible fall shattering the metal in her spine. She raves about her grandchildren; Ellenora, 11, is quite an athlete. Otis, 9, is an actor and dancer. The younger ones, Archer and Porter, haven’t chosen the activity they want yet. She’s happy for Facetime so she can watch them grow. Elizabeth “Betsy” Carey Blameuser and husband Larry continue to fill their lives up with travelling, service and doctor visits. They went out west in October to Arizona, California and Texas. They crammed in visits with their kids in Pasadena and San Diego. Then flew to Phoenix and San Antonio before heading home. Betsy had a total knee replacement in the Spring. She and Larry are both back to their activities of singing, luncheons, golfing and more. Giovanna “Vanna” Looney Gorham watches her granddaughter weekly. She says the two-year-old can unlock any door with a hairpin and climb up the cabinets. The six-year-old is an artist, and her 19-year old grandson is in college. Her other grandie is twelve and into boxing. Vanna and sister, Nancy, have taken several trips to Cripple Creek. Other day times include riding around with her daughter and granddaughter to enjoy the scenery, yard work and working on a new garage. Jena Worland Hartman and husband Dale, have been in the hospital numerous times. Dale had painful back procedures, surgery and GI issues. Jena had her second back surgery, a vascular repair, knee replacement and foot surgery. Work has also been an issue this last year, but says she is happier at home, and things are going along very well. Her biggest news is that her son is engaged to be married. They are “over the moon!” Glenna Crews Orr writes, “We blink our eyes, and another year is in our rear-view mirror, and we wonder how is this possible! If you are like me, you are making all of it count.” Her grandson, a senior in high school, continues to be her heart. She reached out to President Dottie L. King, Ph.D. and was honored to learn her books were added to a collection of SMWC authors that President King displays proudly. She wishes us all much joy. Edna Hannon Wintermantel wrote that all is well in Western New York. She’s Sorry she missed the Reunion. Edna has retired and is helping with the teen grands. Her oldest is a freshman at Cornell. Like all of us, she hopes that 2023 has more normalcy. Edna says, “Take good care all!” Helen McLaughlin Hinshaw doesn’t have much to report from North Michigan. They finally got about five inches of snow, and they’re in for more. Their bachelor sons are still living and working from home. She and Les keep busy with doctor’s appointments and working out at the “Y” several times a week. They are planning on a Southern getaway later in the Spring and a trip overseas to celebrate their 50th.
