student’s needs. It is a good idea to run a degree evaluation in March and/or October to double- check graduation status. That gives the Advisor time to place the student in a course needed to graduate on time. Students apply for graduation through the Registrar’s office ( JotForm) and if they will attend Commencement Day, they must send a Commencement Response Form.
Commencement Day
Commencement Day falls on the Saturday after the last day of the Spring semester. Currently, there are two ceremonies: one for campus students, and one for online and graduate students. Professional Advisors do not participate in the commencement ceremony, but rather offer support on the day of commencement to students as they arrive.
College Catalog
The college catalog is updated by the Registrar, and it is published in August of every academic year. It is maintained online. The catalog houses information about majors and minors. That can also be found electronically on the SMWC website.

Independent Study
Independent study courses are provided under extenuating circumstances. Instances where this may happen is if a student is out of sequence in a course or needs a course to graduate that is not offered in that particular term, amongst other reasons. There is an independent study request form through the Registrar’s office or on Woods Net. There has been some flexibility with email requests due to COVID-19.
