Aspire Indiana Health GCWL Program Guide

June -August 2024

Welcome, to the Graduate Certificate of Women’s Leadership.

Women as strong leaders bring a unique perspective to any organization. To flourish as a leader, women need to build self-awareness, leverage an empowering network, embrace diversity, and use technology to become a better communicator and problem-solver. This unique hybrid immersion program will provide you with the tools you need to add value to your organization. Over the next eight weeks, you will discover your leadership style, your strengths, and your potential. Through this program, you will gain the confidence to use your voice and presence to own the room. The task before us is challenging…but as Aristotle said “Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives – choice, not chance, determines your destiny. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.” Saint Mary- of- the- Woods College has a long history of hiring faculty who love The Woods, understand our mission, and do everything they can to promote student learning. I am truly blessed to have colleagues who are dedicated to excellence! Lastly, I would like to extend my warmest “thank you” to my team members for all their hard work on establishing this new partnership with Aspire Indiana Health. We look forward to a collaborative and developmental future.

Warm Regards,

Workload and Weekly Time Commitment: The experience is designed to be virtually immersive, meaning outside of the scheduled opening and closing webinars; participants work on their own and at their own pace throughout each week. Participants should plan to connect to the module each Monday and Saturday to open and close the course, and then at least two additional times. Readings, assignments, projects, etc., may require 8-12 hours. Acknowledging that each participant’s learning and work style are different, and the workload and time commitment will differ week to week, participants can plan between 15-20 hours each week. Each Week, has an opening and closing meeting. The dates and times are posted in the Learning Management Sessin. If participants cannot attend, they need to let the instructor know. These meetings are recorded and can be watched at a later time. The Graduate Certificate of Women's Leadership Program at SMWC is designed to empower individuals by providing the knowledge, tools, and confidence necessary to excel in leadership roles, champion gender equality, and foster positive change in the workforce and their greater global communities and environments.

The next page details what participants can expect each week. Students will present Final Presentations the week of August 5-9, once a date is selected by the Aspire Indiana Health Leadership Team.

Welcome to the Woods! As a graduate of the Woods, I am excited to be part of your journey of learning! I was a former softball student-athlete while majoring in Elementary Education and was fortunate enough to work with the basketball program for a few years as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my time while at The Woods! I continued my educational path at Indiana State University in Recreation and Sport Management where I was fortunate to learn as a graduate assistant in both academics and intercollegiate athletics. Athletics then became my second home and learned to enjoy NCAA compliance, which is where I started my career. I began teaching and working on my doctoral degree simultaneously. Fifteen years later I find myself continuing to love athletics and teaching. I have a beautiful eight year-old daughter that keeps me extremely busy. Originally from Peoria, Illinois, so I am not far from home. I enjoy all sports and attending as many SMWC events as possible!

Week Seven: July 21-July 27

I began my journey at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College when I participated in the Wabash Valley Leadership Institute in May 2023. I was so inspired from my experience that shortly thereafter I decided to go back to school (after a 23-year hiatus) and began the Master of Leadership Development (“MLD”) program here at the Woods. I will complete my MLD in August 2024 and will immediately thereafter begin my Master of Business Administration program. In addition, I have been a full-time practicing attorney for the last 24 years. I am licensed in Indiana and California with municipal law as my primary area of focus. When I am not practicing law, doing homework, or teaching you can usually find me with my nose in a book or playing a very bad round of golf! I am also very active in my community and serve on the Board of Trustees for the Brazil Public Library along with being a member of the Clay County Board of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. I am married and a mom to three wonderful adult (and almost adult) children. I am also a grandmother (“Oma”) to our first grandchild.
